This years Karneval / Mardi Grass event took place at the Turnerhall in Sacramento together with the Turnverein. The doors opened at 6pm. We had organized a bus coming down from Placerville, which arrived 15 minutes past the hour. Around 40 people joined the ride with the bus, so that they wouldn’t have a problem if they drink. The Turnverein was a really good host; they offered drinks, food and hospitality. They reserved some tables for us. I haven’t counted them all, but I think the hall was almost sold-out; more than 200 people joined this function. There were approximately 80 from the Stammtisch. The Gruber Family Band started at 7pm. They have been renamed as Al Gruber retired at the end of last year. Shortly after 8pm Sabine announced together with Walter (from the Turnverein) our Hofmarschall Juergen Muenster. From there on, he took over. The Elferrat marched in, as well as our lovely young ladies from the dance group and finally they arrived: Prince Gerd and Princess Karin from the Himalaya (Gerd and Karin Bitzer). They both wore gorgeous Indian costumes. The dance group performed in an excellent way, thanks again to their trainer Gisela. The party continued: dancing, talking, having fun. Later our Elferrat performed their traditionally skit; Erika introduced them as American Ladies from all over the Country coming here to become “California Girls”. Unfortunate we had some technical difficulties, it was planned to play that famous song from the Beach Boys, but it didn’t work out. Eventually the bus came and our members left the party at 11:15.
